Acme Hotel Company Chicago
We selected this hotel for its refusal to play it safe: Acme Hotel Company took...
Loews Chicago Hotel occupies the lower thirteen floors of a 52-story Streeterville tower, one block north of the Chicago River, with residences stacked above it. The lobby does not reach for generic grandeur; it reaches for the city's own history instead, with a wooden-block artwork charting the skyline's rise after the Great Fire of 1871 and metal panelling that nods to Chicago's railroad era. The elevators carry Carl Sandburg's 1914 poem 'Chicago' inscribed on their walls, a small detail that sets the tone for a hotel built on local references rather than imported ones.
We chose this hotel because its identity is rooted in Chicago rather than borrowed from a brand template. The lobby art, the Sandburg poem in the elevators, and the railroad-inspired metalwork all point to a specific city rather than a generic version of urban luxury, and the hotel backs that identity with genuine dining and rooftop programming rather than leaving it at decoration. It is a hotel built for guests who want a sense of place even while staying somewhere designed primarily for efficient business travel.
Streeterville sits a block from the Chicago River and two blocks from North Michigan Avenue, putting the hotel within easy walking distance of the Magnificent Mile's shops and restaurants as well as the Riverwalk. Navy Pier and the lakefront are a short walk further east, while the Loop's museums and theater district remain an easy ride south. It is a location built for guests who want proximity to the Mile's energy without staying directly on its busiest block.

Downstairs, Rural Society brings an Argentine grill concept from chef Jose Garces, built around sharing plates cooked over a wood fire rather than a standard hotel steakhouse menu. It gives the hotel a dining identity distinct from its competitors on the Mile, pulling in Chicago diners as well as hotel guests rather than functioning as a captive room-service kitchen. Paired with a ground-floor Starbucks for faster mornings, the hotel covers both ends of a business traveler's day without feeling like two unrelated afterthoughts bolted together.
Three floors up, Streeterville Social turns a rooftop into a genuine warm-weather destination rather than a small terrace with a few chairs. Spread over more than 800 square meters with separate drinking and dining areas, it runs from early summer into late autumn and draws a mix of hotel guests and local regulars. Combined with the third-floor pool just steps away, it gives the hotel an outdoor program that most business-focused towers in the Loop and Streeterville simply do not have.
Guestrooms run from compact Superior Kings up to the large Navy Pier suite, finished in a grey and ivory palette with floor-to-ceiling windows and large work desks rather than style choices that sacrifice function. Lobby tables are wired with plug sockets and USB ports, and boarding-pass printing stations sit near the front desk, small details that matter more to a Tuesday-night business traveler than another design flourish. It is a hotel that treats working efficiently as part of its design brief, not an afterthought squeezed in around it.
